The main functions of the Members of The Friendship Force are group visits
(called "Exchanges") to and from foreign countries. Exchanges
usually last one week and visitors (called "Ambassadors") live with
a host family. The host Club will have a lively program of activities
arranged for the week.
Since its formation in 1994 the Ottawa Club has had some 50 exchanges with
Clubs in various regions of the world plus some 20 exchanges with U.S. Clubs.
Mini exchanges, usually three days, also take place between the 18 Clubs
within Canada.
The Ottawa Club also promotes social activities with an annual Christmas
party and summer picnic as well as bridge, dinner, hiking, games and arts
groups operating throughout the year.
The Club is administered by a Board of Directors consisting of a President,
Vice Pres.-Exchanges, Vice Pres.-Membership, a Secretary, a Treasurer and 6
other Directors with various responsibilities. (View
picture of 2009 board members here).
The Board through the V.P.-Exchanges, following a review of options and
preferences of Club Members, arranges with Friendship Force International in Atlanta for the selection of
incoming and outgoing exchanges.
The Board is also responsible for the selection and appointment of Exchange
Directors and Committee Chairpersons and for the administration and
monitoring of the By-laws, policies and activities within the Club.
All Members are encouraged and expected to take an active role, hosting our
guests, working with committees, traveling with exchanges and generally
partaking of the experiences Friendship Force has to offer.
Annual Membership fees are $32 per person.
